Plaza de Sora and Alba
The basic design is of two chairs facing each other. The chairs are designed with acoustic backs. These chairs are for people to rest and enjoy the park, as well as to interact with each other through sounds, words, and the surrounding environment.
A place to rest.
A space to play.
A piece to experience.
For the two chairs we experimented with different kiln building techniques. One was a traditional updraft kiln, while the other was a downdraft kiln. After the kiln foundations were built, we proceeded to pound two giant mass forms, each containing ten tons of clay. From these forms we sculpted the chairs.
Two 8 cubic meter kilns were built around the carved forms. These kilns were fired for two weeks each using kerosene, gas and recycled wood.
After the firing, the kilns were dismantled and a small park was made around the chairs.
